Scooter Braun breaks down Taylor Swift feud after master copy drama

Taylor Swift bought back her original albums six years after the record executive sold them off

Scooter Braun is opening up about his infamous feud with Taylor Swift after the latter finally managed to buy back her original albums six years after the former originally sold them off.

On the Question Everything podcast on July 17, the record executive opened up about the 2019 masters scandal that ignited the pop superstar’s public outrage.

“I think going backwards and revisiting this is a waste of time,” he said, but still offered his side of the story.

In 2019, Braun acquired Swift’s catalogue when he purchased Big Machine Records. At the time, Swift publicly accused Braun of “incessant, manipulative bullying” and claimed he refused to sell her masters back to her unless she signed an NDA.

“The only thing I didn’t appreciate is it was so public without an understanding of what was actually going on,” Braun explained, claiming that he was in fact “in negotiations to sell it back to her.”

“I just choose to believe her that maybe [her team] didn’t tell her,” he added.

Braun also addressed their lack of a personal relationship. “Taylor and I have only met three times in our life,” he said. “We never had an opportunity to sit in front of each other and have a conversation, to this day.”

Despite the fallout, Braun said that “everyone in the end won” as the value of Swift’s masters only increased over the years, thanks to her re-recordings. The 14-time Grammy winner bought back the rights to her first six albums in May 2025.

“She did incredibly well… the biggest moment of her career,” Braun said. “It was brilliant on her part… the biggest artist of all time.”
