Jessica Simpson reflects on 8 years of sobriety: ‘Purpose for my life’

Jessica Simpson is celebrating a major milestone and looking ahead with renewed purpose.

The singer marked eight years of sobriety on Nov. 2, sharing a message about how removing alcohol from her life reshaped her path.

“8 years ago today I made the choice to confront, to confess and to let go of the self sabotaging parts of my life that I was choosing,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Making that decision allowed me to fully live in the pursuit of God’s purpose for my life.”

Simpson, 45, who shares Maxwell, 13, Ace, 12, and Birdie, 6, with estranged husband Eric Johnson, reflected on how sobriety changed her outlook.

She said alcohol once “silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and chased my circulating fears of complacency.”

Now, she explained, “Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith. Both fear and faith are something that we feel and may not see, I’m so happy I chose faith over fear.”

She added, “It was not in the fight that I found my strength, it was in the surrender.”

This new phase comes during a time of personal transition. Simpson confirmed her split from Johnson earlier this year and is preparing for her return to acting. She appears in the upcoming legal drama All’s Fair alongside Kim Kardashian, Niecy Nash and Sarah Paulson.

At the Los Angeles premiere in October, she told E! News, “I feel like at 45, I’m born again. It’s like a resurrection of everything entertainment for me and it’s so nice.”

Simpson is also making her way back to music.

After stepping away to focus on motherhood and her fashion brand, she released her EP Nashville Canyon: Part 1 this year and has concerts scheduled throughout 2025.

“There was a 15-year break and it felt very long,” she shared, explaining that raising her children came first during that time.

Now, with new projects underway, Simpson is excited to keep creating. Speaking about All’s Fair, she said, “It was an amazing experience. I’m craving doing it again.”
