To access Aadhaar-linked services online, your mobile number must be linked to your Aadhaar. (News18 Hindi)

In today’s digital world, an Aadhaar card is essential for activities ranging from opening a bank account to applying for a ration card. This card serves as your identity and contains key personal information.

Many people change their mobile numbers over time. Hence, the government recommends updating your Aadhaar details every 10 years, especially your mobile number. If your mobile number has changed, it is crucial to update it in your Aadhaar record.

Why Update Your Aadhaar?

To access Aadhaar-linked services online, your mobile number must be linked to your Aadhaar. This is because an OTP (One-Time Password) is sent to the registered number for identity verification during online transactions. Updating your current number ensures smooth access to various digital services connected to Aadhaar.

Can You Update Your Mobile Number Online?

No, you cannot update your Aadhaar-linked mobile number directly online because biometric verification is required. To do this, you must visit your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra (enrolment centre) or book an appointment through the official UIDAI website.

Steps To Book An Appointment Online To Update Your Mobile Number

  • Visit the official UIDAI website and select your preferred language for easier navigation.
  • Go to: My Aadhaar > Get Aadhaar > Book an Appointment.
  • Enter your city or location and click ‘Proceed to Book Appointment’.
  • Enter your current mobile number and the CAPTCHA code, then click ‘Generate OTP’.
  • Input the OTP received and click ‘Verify OTP’.
  • Fill in your details as per Aadhaar which includes Aadhaar number, Full name, Date of birth, Application type, State and city, and Preferred Aadhaar Seva Kendra
  • Select the data field you wish to update – in this case, choose Update Mobile Number.
  • Click Next to choose a convenient date and time for your visit.
  • Review all entered details and click Submit to confirm your appointment.
  • Visit the selected Aadhaar Seva Kendra on your chosen date and time. Officials will carry out biometric verification and update your mobile number in the Aadhaar database.
  • Pay a service fee of Rs 50 for the update. You will receive a receipt containing a URN (Update Request Number), which can be used to track the status of your request online.
